Did You Know?

Many older adults in need of shelter, care, and community outlive their savings and end up in substandard living situations with little or no care.

  • 1 in 3 adults 65+ fall 200% below the federal poverty level.
  • 6 in 10 of them will need long-term care at some point.
  • Public assistance only covers 50-70% of the cost of care in assisted living and skilled nursing, leaving a significant gap!
  • Because of changes within the long-term care landscape, skilled nursing providers are increasingly reducing beds or closing residences.
  • Between 2019 and 2022, Wisconsin lost 2,200 skilled nursing beds, a loss of 8%.

What We’re Doing

Luther Manor is keeping skilled nursing open and meeting a critical need in society.

  • Luther Manor Foundation helps bridge the gap between public assistance and the actual cost of care. In 2023, Luther Manor provided over $2 million in charity care.
  • The foundation helped extend Luther Manor’s mission to 361 residents who we otherwise would not have been able to help. (In addition to skilled nursing, these are residents in assisted living, memory care, and the Advanced Transitional Care Program.)
  • In 60+ years, no resident has been asked to leave Luther Manor solely due to their inability to pay.

What This Means For You and Your Loved One

A place in our health care center, assisted living residence, or memory care is open to you if and when you need it.

If you are one of the many older adults who has saved for the future but cannot afford the ever-increasing cost of healthcare – we still have a place for you.

How we bridge the gap

Each year the Luther Manor Foundation grows the resident support fund through several fundraising efforts: the Friends of Luther Manor campaign in late winter, Love Lights in November, and the Year-End campaign in December.

We are proud that many of our employees also help bridge the gap by giving monthly through payroll deduction. In 2023, 52 employees donated nearly $7,000. It is yet another way that our employees show their dedication to Luther Manor’s mission.

And memorial gifts are made all year long.

Any time of year is a good time of year to give! Help us bridge the gap by giving a gift today.
